MEASURING YOUR BASAL BODY TEMPERATURE

1.      Shake down the mercury thermometer below 90°F, and place it beside the bed before going to sleep.

2.     Immediately upon waking, place the thermometer deep in your armpit for 7-10 minutes.  The less movement you make, the more accurate the reading.  Lie as still as possible.  Try to not fall asleep because you do not want to accidentally roll onto and break the thermometer that is next to your skin.

3.      Record your temperature and pulse on the chart on this page.

¨      For menstruating women: you can begin measuring your temperature at anytime during your cycle.  However, the most accurate readings occur within the first seven days following the start of menses.

4.      Record your temperature and pulse (heartbeats per minute) for two to four weeks or until your next appointment.
